Papua New Guinea (PNG) is an amazing country in so many unbelievable ways. PNG encompasses the eastern part of the world’s second largest island New Guinea and about 600 other islands/atolls, with a total area of 473,189 sq km. Over 750 languages/dialects are spoken in PNG, this represents about one third of the worlds indigenous languages.

These staggering figures are also demonstrated in the flora and fauna.

  • 740+ species of birds (with 77 of these being endemic),
  • 900+ species of butterflies (including the world’s largest species the Queen Alexandra Birdwing), and
  • 3000+ species of orchids!

“WE CALL IT PARADISE, THEY CALL IT HOME”

Sitting in the evening with a cold drink in your hand, after an exhausting days walk, watching Eclectus Parrots fly past on their way to roost.

Checking a mist net in the still of the night to find the unexpected catch of a beautiful Common Tube-nosed Bat.

Frantically searching through your field guide trying to identify a bird that is totally unknown to you, before it disappears into a sea of green.

This and more is all part of a wildlife encounter in Papua New Guinea!
