Gondwana Connection has focused its PNG Tours in the Milne Bay Province. This area offers the excitement of a rough and unexplored country and the beauty of a tropical island, all rolled up in one stunning 14-day package. Our base in Alotau, the provincial capital, is perfectly located to offer a diverse range of habitats all on your doorstep.

1tp09-1You could be watching birds in the Mangroves and a short twenty-minute walk brings you to Alluvial Coastal Rainforest. Drive an hour east and you are in Tropical Grasslands. Drive an hour in the opposite direction and you will find yourself standing at the base of mountains covered with untouched Lowland Rainforest. Every time, presenting a whole range of new species of animals and plants.

The people of this region are very friendly and travellers are made to feel safe and welcome.

Road access is fairly restricted in PNG and this is noticeably so in Milne Bay. Boats and aircraft are widely used to move about this area, both of which will be used on our visit. This enables us to access island habitats, Lower Montane Forests and those special isolated spots.

Bats and Flying Foxes are very well represented in Papua New Guinea and Milne Bay has more than its fair share. During our stay we will take in a visit to Damawewe Cave. This cave complex holds a vast array of the smaller insectivorous bat species, plus numerous other cave dwelling species.

This is an area where species constantly break the rules. Spend a week here and it is very likely that you will identify a range extension or possibly a new species. The problem with Milne Bay is that there are so many things to see that you just run out of time. Click on the thumbnails below to see the images.
